Brown Gun Club Check Tweed Blazer
A two-button tailored jacket in a gun club check, a pattern with a long history in country clothing. The tweed was woven to order in Yorkshire, and its small check combines brown, rust, green, tan and navy into a muted palette that looks richer up close. It was made for a winter capsule collection and is cut closer and more tailored than Drake's Games jackets, with a soft natural shoulder, an unlined body and half-canvas construction. It is meant for cold-weather wear in the city as much as the country.
In Proper Cloth
VBC S150s Brown and Scarlet Glen Plaid Flannel Downing Jacket
We could not find a gun club check tweed among Proper Cloth's cloths, so we chose a brushed brown glen plaid flannel with a scarlet overcheck. It keeps the earthy colour, the small check with a red accent and the soft surface of the original. We matched the construction where Proper Cloth allowed it: soft half-canvas, an unlined body, a two-button notch lapel, patch pockets, dark brown horn buttons and four buttons on each cuff. The cloth is the main point of difference, being a softer flannel with a little cashmere rather than a firm, heavy tweed.
Vitale Barberis Canonico in Biella wove this flannel from merino wool with 7% cashmere. It is a medium-heavy cloth with a brushed, slightly fuzzy surface and a soft hand. The pattern is a brown glen plaid with a scarlet overcheck. It is a cold-weather cloth, though it feels smoother and less rugged than tweed.
