Khaki Herringbone Twill Cotton Drawstring Trousers
Drake's fatigue trousers draw on two sources: military work trousers and the relaxed cut of older athletic clothing. They are cut from an organic Japanese herringbone cotton with a soft hand and a slight give, and made in Portugal. An elasticated drawstring sits hidden inside the waistband, so the waist stays plain from the outside, while slanted patch pockets carry the utility character. They are meant as an easy, straight-legged casual trouser for everyday wear.
In Proper Cloth
Di Sondrio Beige Heavyweight Heirloom Chino
We chose a heavy beige cotton twill from Tessuti di Sondrio because it is close in colour to the khaki original and has the substantial hand the Drake's cloth is known for. Proper Cloth offered no matching herringbone in this weight, so we accepted a plain twill and gave up the herringbone texture. We set fatigue pockets, square back patch pockets, an internal elastic drawstring waistband, a flat front and horn buttons to follow the original's details. Proper Cloth's fly is a zip, and its hem is a standard finished hem rather than the original's raw-edge look.
A very heavy 100% cotton chino cloth of about 535 g from Tessuti di Sondrio in Italy, woven as a dense three-ply twill with a smooth finish. It is a plain beige solid with no visible pattern, and it is built for long wear, likely softening slowly with use.
