Brown Gun Club Check Tweed Blazer
This is a two-button sport coat in a small gun club check tweed, a pattern that began on the shooting estate and has long been worn in town as well as in the country. The check mixes brown and camel with finer lines of navy, teal and black, so from a distance it reads as an earthy brown. It is made in Italy on Drake's closer tailored pattern, with a soft natural shoulder, half-canvas construction and an unlined body, and it is meant to sit between sporting dress and city tailoring.

In Proper Cloth
Brown Houndstooth Italian Flannel Bedford Jacket
We chose a dense brown houndstooth flannel from an Italian mill because it keeps the original's small, textured, brown-based check and its cold-weather weight, although it is not a tweed. We matched the construction where Proper Cloth allows it: soft half-canvas, an unlined body, a two-button notch lapel, patch pockets and dark brown horn buttons. Proper Cloth sleeves come with working buttons, so the cuff has four kissing buttons in place of Drake's three-button sham cuff, and we added side vents.
A pure wool flannel woven by Lanificio Angelico, an Italian mill founded in the 1950s, brushed to a soft, slightly napped surface and on the heavier side of medium weight. Several shades of chocolate brown form a houndstooth of moderate contrast, and the dark colouring makes the flannel look a little less casual. It is a cloth for autumn and winter.
